The GDC Giants Specialist Baseball Program

An initiative of our HPE Coordinator Ash Dearlove, the new GDC baseball program is off to a roaring start. Having recently been awarded a $50,000 grant from the government, work has begun on a baseball diamond on our school grounds. Recent participation numbers have swelled to two classes, an advanced class and a class for students new to the sport. Our program is directly supported and associated with our local community baseball team the Gawler Rangers.

American Billy Vincent, with a vast amount of baseball knowledge and experience and having coached national teams throughout Europe in the 1990s, has come on board to lead the program. We have recently purchased over $2,000 worth of baseball gear and our new hats and practice shirts look amazing.

The specialist baseball program is open to all students Years 8 and up. We will be competing in a number of tournaments this year, as well as hosting our own for the Year 7s and our primary feeder schools. We will eventually be erecting a building next to our diamond which will provide an area for storage, a locker room and an area to work on our theory work.

Coach Vincent has applied for more grant money and we will be upgrading our field as we move forward. These are exciting times for the GDC Giants and we hope to see you out at the field to support us when the tournaments begin.
